In Lima, the National Association of Journalists of Peru (ANP) led a protest outside the Palace of Justice to call attention to what it described as escalating violence and systematic harassment against media workers. The organization emphasized that judicial persecution and police aggression have become persistent threats to press freedom.
Participants criticized police conduct during news coverage, saying officers routinely obstruct reporting and reinforce patterns of repression. According to the ANP, there were eight assaults on journalists during the September protests in Lima, six of them attributed to the police.
The mobilization extended to multiple regions, where journalists highlighted even harsher conditions for local reporters. Outside the capital, the ANP noted, judicial harassment and physical violence against the press are often more severe.
The ANP urged authorities to put an end to attacks on journalists and ensure conditions that protect freedom of the press nationwide.
